Marana

Town of Marana Official WebsiteMarana is a community with a small town feel, located in Pima County, Arizona just northwest of Tucson, along Interstate 10, with a small portion in Pinal County, Arizona.  The population is in excess of 33,000 as of 2006 and was the fourth fastest growing place among all cities and towns in Arizona, of any size, from 1990 to 2000. The median income for a household in Marana was $52,870. It has grown from its roots as a center for farming and ranching to include over 120 square miles of residential, commercial and recreational opportunities, mainly due to the aggressive annexing of nearby neighborhoods.

The Tucson Mountains and the western half of Saguaro National Park are located to the west. Marana has a variety of housing options, including the Continental Ranch area at the base of the Tortolita Mountains.

In 2007, Marana began hosting the PGA Tour’s WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship.  Tiger Woods won in 2008.  The tournament will remain in Marana through at least 2010.  The Ritz Carlton just recently opened their upscale hotel at Dove Mountain, home to many luxury homes and the beautiful The Gallery Golf Course at the base of the Tortolita’s.

The Town of Marana also boasts two age-restricted communities.  As one of the fast growing communities in the region, it is expected to double in population in the next 10 years. There are three golf courses within the Town borders and also many outdoor amenities and activities in and around Marana, including 68 acres of parks, six miles of finished paths and trails in the Tortolita Preserve and the Western Heritage Arena.
